Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Andrews

Robert L. “Bob” Andrews, 94, a resident of the Parsons Presbyterian Manor, died there at 6:59 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2019.

He was born June 7, 1925 at Jackson, Ohio to Harold and Gladys (Scheier) Andrews. He grew up in Grandview Heights, Ohio and graduated from high school there. Later he graduated from Ohio State University. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps.

Bob was employed by Columbus Builders, the Hausman Corporation and Dayton-Superior Corporation in Columbus, Ohio and was transferred by Dayton-Superior to Parsons in 1973. In 1980 he moved with the company to Des Moines, Iowa and in 1990 retired and returned to Parsons.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club, the Katy Golf Club and the Parsons Gun Club. He was a member of the Audubon Society and was instrumental in placing the Purple Martin houses throughout Parsons. He had served as a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed hunting and fishing. While living in Columbus, Ohio he became a member of the Masonic Lodge and had attained the 32nd degree in Masonry.

On September 3, 1949 he and Vera M. Ward were married in Columbus, Ohio. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2006.

Surviving are three children, Phillip Andrews (Mary) of Kansas City, MO, Beth Andrews of Winston-Salem, NC and Cindi Wood (Ken) of Tonganoxie; five grandchildren, Chris Andrews (Jessica), Jaime Gillespie (Jared), Allison Wood, Sarah Andrews and Katie Andrews; three great-grandchildren, C. J. Andrews, Tessa Andrews and Reeve Gillespie; and a sister, Marian Edwards, of Homer, IL.

Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 10 at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jennifer Dawson officiating. Private burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m., until the service hour. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Heartland Honor Flight. They may be left at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home or sent to P. O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357. Online messages may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
