Obituary for Mary M. Larsen

Mary M. Larsen, 71, of Parsons, died at 2:37 P.M., Monday, January 07, 2019 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

She was born December 1, 1947 at Parsons, a daughter of John Joseph and Helen Estaleen (Wiglesworth) Atherton. She grew up in Parsons and attended school here. Upon graduating from the Labette County High School she lived in Los Angeles and attended the Life Bible College. She then returned to Parsons and began working at the Kress Store. She later worked at Broderick’s and then managed Taylor’s Service Station for many years.

On June 29, 1968 she was united in marriage to Dave Larsen at the old Foursquare church at Parsons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

She was a life-long member of the Foursquare Church. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years. She also cooked at the former Camp Pomme de Terre (now Camp Hebron) for many years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: three grandsons – Jacob Larsen, of Parsons, KS, Zach Larsen, of Parsons, KS, Devon Elsen, of Dennis, KS; one granddaughter – Dusti Larsen, of Goddard, KS; Two sisters – Mickey Powell, of Parsons, KS, Clova Abshier, and her husband, Gail, of North Fort Myers, FL; a niece who was also her caregiver – Debra Grundy, of Parsons, KS; many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son – Kenny Larsen, on November 6, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Schulze officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Camp Hebron, a church camp operated by the Foursquare Church.
