Obituary for Marilyn Ann Jacquinot

Kenneth Raymond Jacquinot, 83, and Marilyn Ann Jacquinot, 85, of Parsons, died a few days apart after being married over 62 years. Kenneth died at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin and Marilyn died at 1:18 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
Kenneth was born December 29, 1935 in Walnut, KS to Leonard and Sue (Smith) Jacquinot. He grew up in Walnut and later moved to Kansas City, MO to pursue his Electrical Apprenticeship Certificate. He completed his Electorical Apprenticeship in 1959 and worked for Plaza Electric. He enjoyed hanging the Christmas lights on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City during his residence there. He went to work for Appleton Electric and Cummins Diesel as a salesman. Later he moved the family to Coffeyville, KS to work as a salesman for the Tri-State Electric. In 1971 he started Century Electric in Parsons and ran the business during the 1970’s. He enjoyed running different businesses while continuing to work as an electrician. He purchased the Zesto restaurant in Parsons in June of 1974 and later converted it to a barbeque restaurant. He worked as an insurance and real estate agent during the 1980’s and then retired from the State Hospital in the late 1980’s.
Marilyn was born April 3, 1934 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Harold and Ernestine (Brown) Raymond. The Raymond family moved to Parsons when Marilyn was four years old to start Raymond’s Grocery. At the age of fourteen she joined the Mount St. Mary’s convent and later received her education at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS. She decided that she loved teaching and loved children and she felt her calling was to not continue her path to take her final vow to the church. She continued to teach elementary school in Kansas City and talked often of the wonderful times she had teaching school and living in Kansas City. She worked many years at Labette County Medical Center as a cook and then as a dietician. She was a substitute teacher at St. Patrick School and also ran the Zesto restaurant and barbecue place.
Kenneth and Marilyn were married on November 24, 1956 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Kansas City, MO. They enjoyed their time together in Kansas City and had five children during the late 1950’s and 1960’s.
They were members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Kenneth’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and working in his shop. Marilyn loved to cook, sew and travel, but most of all she loved her grandchildren.
They are survived by two sons, Ray (Becky) Jacquinot and Steve (Penny) Jacquinot, of Parsons; two daughters, Julie (Kent) Smith, of Concordia, KS and Renee (Russ) Kittrell, of Eugene, OR; grandchildren, Chris Jacquinot, Matt Jacquinot, Andrea Brooks, Greg Smith, Leah Smith, Jacob Jacquinot, Molly Stevenson, Patrick Jacquinot, Emma McDaniel, Ike McDaniel, Alexandra Kittrell, Austin Kittrell and ten great-grandchildren. Their son, Michael Scott Jacquinot preceded them in death on March 1, 1991.
Kenneth is survived by a brother, Bernard Jacquinot, from Overland Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Sue Jacquinot and his brothers Joe Gene, Bill, Pat, Leonard Paul and a sister, Marilyn.
Marilyn is survived by two brothers, Louis Raymond, of Charlotte, NC and Paul Raymond, of Pittsburg, KS and four sisters, Janie Schibi, of Parsons, Teresa Robinson, of Murfreesboro, TN, Rita Salsbery, of Newton, KS and Mary Alice Walker, of McKinney, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ernestine Raymond and a brother, John Martin Raymond.
