Obituary for Joan Greenfeather

Joan Greenfeather, 88, of Parsons passed away at 3:37 a.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.

She was born on January 3, 1931 at rural Galesburg to Noble and Edith Pearl (Trabue) VanCleave. She grew up at rural Galesburg and attended Galesburg schools graduating from Galesburg High School.

Joan work in various secretarial and bookkeeping positions. She worked at Anchortite/Dayton Superior for over 26 years as a bookkeeper. She then worked at LaForge and Budd as an administrative assistant and finished her career as a bookkeeper at Day and Zimmerman retiring in the mid 1990’s.

She and William Thomas “Tom” Greenfeather were united in marriage on February 26, 1988 at Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2018.

After she retired Joan took a painting class at Labette Community College and became an accomplished tole painter. Her husband had a woodworking business in their retirement years and she painted numerous projects in the business. Joan was also a fantastic cook and enjoyed fishing and sewing. She was an avid supporter of her husband’s and her family’s activities. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Parsons and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron.

Joan is survived by her son, Bill Greenfeather of Parsons; her daughter, Marilyn Murnan, and her husband, Larry of Parsons; her grandchildren, Michelle Hinkle of Ft. Worth, TX, Dale Greenfeather of Oklahoma City, OK, and Robert Murnan of Pittsburg, KS; six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Melvin VanCleave and her sister, Melba VanCleave.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Reverend Phil Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 Thursday evening. Memorials are suggested to the Free Will Baptist Church and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P. O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
