Obituary for Darold R. Dean

Darold R. Dean, 90, of Oswego and a former Mound Valley resident, passed away at 9:25 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Oswego Health and Rehabilitation Center at Oswego.

He was born on July 12, 1928 near Parsons to Elliott Wayne and Gladys Faye (Beasley) Dean. He grew up at rural Parsons and lived briefly in Colorado and Michigan before moving back to rural Parsons where he attended Parsons High School.

Darold served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1953 on the USS Hollister. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to Parsons.

Darold and BernaDean Sue Holuska were married on January 17, 1953 at Pomona, California. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2008.

Darold worked at the Farmers COOP in Mound Valley as a manager from 1954 to 1971 and then at Farmland Industries from 1971 until his retirement. He then worked part time at Big Hill Wholesale Water for 11 years.

He enjoyed coyote hunting, fishing, raising dogs, gardening, playing cards, and playing music especially the mandolin. He attended the Western Way Cowboy Church at rural Altamont and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and AARP.

Darold is survived by four sons, Michael Dean, and his wife, Patti of Cherryvale, Larry Dean, and his wife, Jamie of Coffeyville, Gregory Dean, and his wife, Candy of Edna, and Charles Dean, and his wife Nicole of Frontenac; his companion, Glenna Jones of Oswego; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with two on the way; his sister, Maxine Pinnell of Clyde, KS; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Darold was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Dean and Kenneth Dean and one sister, Margie Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Les Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. Memorials are suggested to the Western Way Cowboy Church and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942 Parsons, KS 67357.
