Obituary for Carolyn J. Baker

Carolyn J. Baker, 74, of rural South Mound, passed away at 7:45 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul where she has resided since January.

She was born on May 1, 1945 at Erie, Kansas to Emerson and Hazel (Culbertson)Newberry. She grew up at rural St. Paul where she attended country and Erie schools graduating from Erie High School in 1963.

She and Lloyd Lee Baker were married on August 8, 1964 in Erie. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2010.

She lived near South Mound for many years where she raised her children and was a homemaker.

Carolyn enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren, in her earlier years sewing clothing for her girls, cooking for family and friends, gardening, and making memories with her family. She was also an avid reader and was known for her delicious cherry cheesecake.
She is survived by her son, Travis Baker, and his wife Holly of Parsons; her daughters, Debbie Weidert, and her husband, Jeremy of Erie and Melody Lindberg, and her husband, Troy of Savonburg; her grandchildren, Bailey Swiler, Ty Swiler, Tate Lindberg, Macy Lindberg, Neeley Baker, McKynlee Baker, and Piper Baker; her brother, Dalton Newberry, and his wife, Shirley of St. Paul; her sisters, Darlene Jeffrey, and her husband, Dale of Erie and Bernie Johnston, and her husband, Jeff of Bartlett; a sister-in-law, Reta Newberry of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Calvin Newberry.; and an infant sister, Gloria Newberry.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Lance Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the South Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to the Erie Library and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
